1. Function:
The main thrust pad of steam turbine is the main load-bearing component of the thrust bearing, which bears the axial thrust generated by the rotor when doing work, and also balances the axial thrust to ensure stable axial gap between the rotor and the stator components; The direction of force on the main thrust pad is the same as the axial thrust direction during the normal operation of the rotor. Some pad is allowed to adjust its angle automatically in a part of designing, then it can adapt to load fluctuations under changing working conditions, and improve operational stability.
2. Material:
2.1 Cast steel+Babbitt alloy (also known as black gold):Babbitt alloy can melt when the shaft temperature reaches around 110 ℃, and increasing the displacement space of the rotor spindle; Thus protecting the spindle and preventing dry friction of the thrust pad caused by large axial displacement of the spindle.
2.2 Tin bronze: It has good wear resistance and suitable for medium & high loading conditions.
The selection of different materials depends on different working temperature, loading conditions, or lubrication conditions. For example, Babbitt alloy is commonly used in conventional high-temperature environments.

Thrust pads are widely used in steam turbines, water turbines, water pumps, and other related applications.
