The high-pressure shaft seal at the high-pressure end of the turbine cylinder is referred to as the high-pressure shaft seal, also known as the front shaft seal. The low-pressure shaft seal at the low-pressure end is termed the low-pressure shaft seal, also called the rear shaft seal.
1. Primary Functions:
1) Provide structural support and facilitate installation of the steam seal ring.
2) Reduce steam leakage to enhance efficiency.
3) Prevent air ingress to maintain vacuum conditions.
4) Guide medium flow and recover residual medium energy.
2. Structural Design:
1) Primary materials for steam seal body: Cast iron (HT250), carbon steel (ZG230-450);
2) Material requirements: Excellent casting properties and mechanical strength;
3) Split design typically consists of upper and lower halves.
3. Applicable Equipment:
Widely used in steam turbines, compressors, blowers, etc.
4. Common Failures:
1) Steam seal body deformation causing seal rings to lose functionality and resulting in steam leakage;
2) Scale buildup and seizing of the steam seal body, preventing free movement of seal rings within the groove and leading to wear;
3) Creep deformation of steam seal body materials (e.g., cast iron) under prolonged high temperatures, particularly at the high-pressure cylinder steam seal end.
