The side tooth type steam seal is an improved structure of the comb tooth type steam seal and belongs to the labyrinth type sealing category. The main difference lies in that the steam seal teeth of this structure are not radially arranged on the end face of the steam seal body, but are axially arranged along the side of the steam seal ring, forming multiple axial throttling gaps. This structure is widely used in the high-pressure cylinder diaphragms and shaft ends of steam turbines, which require high sealing efficiency and operational stability.
Structure: A specific structural form of labyrinth type sealing. The core feature is the addition of axial steam seal teeth on the basis of the radial steam seal blades, which cooperate with the flange or platform side of the rotor to form a tortuous path. Characteristics:
Advantages: Excellent sealing effect, long leakage path; High safety, strong resistance to radial wear; Good structural rigidity, stable; Easy for replacement and maintenance;
Disadvantages: Very sensitive to axial displacement; High manufacturing cost; Relatively complex structure; High precision requirements for maintenance and adjustment;
Common faults:
1) Side teeth wear and tilting;
2) Uneven or excessive side teeth clearance;
3) Root fracture of side teeth;
4) Breakage of steam seal plates;
5) Axial contact and rubbing between side teeth and rotor;
6) Contact and rubbing between steam seal plates and rotor.
