The shaft seal cooler (also known as the shaft seal heater) is a critical auxiliary component in the thermal system of a steam turbine. Its primary function is to recover the heat and working fluid from steam leakage in the turbine shaft seal while simultaneously cooling the steam component within the leakage. This prevents non-condensable gases (such as air) from entering the condenser and disrupting the vacuum, and recovers the condensate back into the thermal cycle. This process minimizes working fluid loss and heat dissipation.
