The cellular sealing is a highly efficient labyrinth seal structure. Its sealing body is made by welding multiple layers of honeycomb-shaped metal foil sheets. The thickness of the foil is only 0.05 to 0.2mm, and the honeycomb aperture is generally 3 to 10mm. It is mainly installed on the diaphragm sealing parts of the high-pressure cylinder and intermediate-pressure cylinder of the steam turbine, as well as the shaft end sealing parts. Compared with the traditional comb-shaped sealing, it has higher sealing efficiency and stronger resistance to impact and wear.
Structure: The sealing surface of the sealing ring is not teeth, but a honeycomb-shaped hexagonal mesh made of Hastelloy X or Inconel foil sheets. Steam forms vortices in the honeycomb holes, generating extremely high flow resistance, effectively suppressing leakage. Even if impact and wear occur, the soft honeycomb walls will wear out first, causing minimal damage to the rotor.
Characteristics:
Advantages: Excellent sealing effect, with leakage reduction of over 20% compared to comb-type; Extremely high safety, with strong resistance to impact and wear.
Disadvantages: High manufacturing cost, and the honeycomb holes may be clogged by solid impurities.
Common faults:
1) Wear and collapse of the honeycomb foil sheet;
2) Blockage of the honeycomb holes;
3) Detachment and cracking of the honeycomb foil sheet;
4) Inconsistent and excessive sealing gap;
5) Corrosion and pitting of the honeycomb body;
