Description
The toothed steam seal is the core device for sealing the clearance between the moving and stationary components of a power station steam turbine. It is widely used at the shaft end of the steam turbine, between the diaphragm (stator ring) and the rotor. It consists of multiple groups of circularly arranged metal teeth (steam seal plates) and steam seal grooves on the rotor. It belongs to a labyrinth seal structure.
Structure: The most common form consists of a series of continuous metal teeth (shoulders) and corresponding grooves, forming a tortuous leakage path.
Characteristics:
Advantages: Simple structure, low manufacturing cost, high reliability.
Disadvantages: The sealing gap is relatively large, resulting in a high leakage rate; when the rotor exceeds the critical speed or vibrates, the tooth tip is prone to friction with the rotor, causing the gap to further increase.
Common faults:
1) Wear, bending, or breakage of the steam seal plate (the most common);
2) Large steam seal gap, failure of the spring support;
3) Deformation or jamming of the steam seal plate;
4) Collision between the steam seal plate and the rotor (a serious fault);
