Description

The brush-type steam seal is a flexible contact-type sealing structure, belonging to the new generation of sealing technology for steam turbines. Its core consists of a high-density metal brush wire bundle, front and rear baffles, and the steam seal ring body. The brush wire bundle is made of high-elasticity alloy wires (such as Hastelloy, Inconel alloys), fixed at an inclined angle inside the inner ring of the steam seal ring. The tips of the brush wires lightly contact the rotor surface or maintain a very small gap. It is widely used in the shaft ends and diaphragms of steam turbines and other static-dynamic sealing parts.

Structure:

A large number of extremely fine high-temperature alloy steel wires (such as cobalt-based alloys) are closely arranged at a certain angle and welded between the back plate and the side plate to form a soft "brush" barrier.

Characteristics:

Advantages: Currently, it has the best sealing effect, with leakage being only 1/5 to 1/3 of that of the comb-type; it can adapt to rotor deflection.

Disadvantages: There is wear; the brush wire may fail due to fatigue after long-term operation; the manufacturing cost is the highest.

Common faults:

1) Brush wire bundle wear and tilting;

2) Brush wire bundle fracture and detachment;

3) Brush wire bundle blockage;

4) Uneven sealing gap;

5) Stabilization loss and wear of the steam seal ring;
